"Unexpired household bleach will be effective against coronaviruses when properly diluted" the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

The CDC's recipe calls for diluting 5 tablespoons (or 1/3 cup) of bleach per gallon of water, or 4 teaspoons of bleach per quart of water. Bleach can be found at most national hardware and paint stores.

Tips

• Practice routine soap and water cleaning of frequent A&S "high touch" surfaces, including tables, desks and countertops, doorknobs and handles, light switches, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, sinks, etc. Remember, bleach is a disinfectant but is not appropriate for the removal of dirt or residue from surfaces.
• Always wear disposable gloves to clean and disinfect.
• Allow for good ventilation.
• Leave solution on surfaces for at least one minute (according to product labels).
• Never mix bleach with ammonia or any other cleaners.
• Be cautious using cleaning and disinfecting products on fabrics and delicate surfaces.
