Before storage inspect your caliper for wear and tear including burrs and scratches on the jaws. If anything is found, arrange for repair or replacement.
Clean your caliper before storing applying a light coat of high grade instrument oil and wiping clean with a cloth.
When storing the caliper make sure to return it to its original case with the jaws slightly open and the locking screw cracked loose.
If storing for a potentially long period of time, use a silica gel pack to prevent rusting.
Calipers should be stored an environment free of heat, dust, humidity, oil, and mist.
When storing electronic calipers for an extended period of time, make sure to also remove the battery.
Calipers should NEVER be stored near anything magnetic (such as a magnetic work table) to avoid being magnetized.
